skinhead

[edit]

hiya Sam, are you a skinhead? Your picture looks like one. And based on your edits you sure acts like one. We need more articulate and sensible people like you for our racialist cause and do away the stigma associated with it. 14!! 88!!

Actually no, I'm not. If your interested in my political opinions, see User:Sam Spade/Theoretical Biases, but I assure you I am not here to advocate any cause, other than factual accuracy and NPOV. In my personal experience, racism is inefficient, and racialism a poor method of determining the character of others. Additionally, as a Pantheist / panentheist, I see my immanant God within All, people, animals and objects of all sorts. Those who are nearer to God can be known by their fruits (as opposed to pigment or other racial features), such as the fruits of wisdom, altruism, and efficiency.
Because of my views, I will continue to insist upon NPOV here on the wikipedia, and strive to see all topics depicted in a fair and balanced manner, including those which are not Politically correct, as yours appear not to be. Welcome

[edit]

Thanks for the welcome, Sam! ...Rwlane 22:42, 25 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Glad to have you, (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 15:38, 26 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I, too, appreciated your welcome - tanks! However, it puzzled me a little, too. To put it bluntly: Did my contributions make you think I badly needed to read the tutorial...? I think it would be a good idea to accompany the standard welcome with a few words to indicate what "triggered" it. --Niels Ø 13:14, Feb 28, 2005 (UTC)

Probably a good idea, since I get that question alot. I sent you the note because I could tell you were new (in this case a red talk page link), and no other reason. if I had reason to think you were up to no good, I'd likely have emphasized the policy pages I felt you were violating. That wasn't the case w you or Rwlane tho, of course. (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 13:22, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Can you help me

[edit]

Hi, my name is Carlos and I see that you stated a few lines in the Alberto Fujimori Talk. As you can see, I'm completely block by the arguments of another user (AKA Viajero) that uses higly controvertial and Biased web pages to support his arguments. He stated that he is a periodist, but his lack of knownledge about Peruvian history (my country) is annoying. He goes as far as defending several terrorist organization that were responsable for the civil war of Peru on the 80's. Can you help me to settle this? I just want to make clear that a person that is totaly disconnected from the reality of another country cannot stated information and imposed them as "TRUTH". AS a Peruvian, defending those murders is offensive and clearly POV. Thanks. Messhermit 04:48, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I will look into it and do what I can, but not being a peruvian, and knowing next to nothing about Fujimori, my ability to edit the page extensively is rather limited. I can of course help to minimize POV, increase civility, and give you links to pages like Wikipedia:Conflict resolution, which might be helpful to you. Cheers, (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 13:21, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I appreciate that. Unfortunately, Viajero and Jmabel already put a price over my head and right now I'm writing my defense to prevent being baned. You have at least an Idea of what was going on, and I really would like for your part to support me in this event. thanks, you can look by this page.

  • Thanks for your help. But it appears that now that the RfC page is no longer a Issue (How must I do to get it deleted?) two other users that clearly support Viajero Intolerance toward me are now modifing completely the Alberto Fujimori page. I can't do too much about it, since I don't wanna Violate the 3 rv policy, and for the fact that I don't wann give more fuel to Viajero against me. I can't fight agains all of Viajero's Friends. Please, I'm a new person to Wikipedia (as you may known already) and I don't know if this is some sort of Violation to my rights as Wikipedist. Can you help me? It is not right that he call his pals to candalize the page so freely. Messhermit 17:40, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
  • Also, I stated that the page should be protected, but I get no responce. Why? Messhermit 17:40, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Editing Wikipedia?

[edit]

Hi Sam - My name is Kyle Vermeulen and I'm very new to Wikipedia. I am concerned because under my birthdate and year, there is my name, and next to it it says "Gay Rights Activist". I am not a gay rights activist. I am also not homophobic, but this is not what I would chose for people to see when searching for my name on the internet. I'm hoping you could please delete my name and this description from Wikipedia? I appreciate andy help you can offer.

Kyle Vermeulen kcv2@calvin.edu

I tried searching for you, and didn't find anything on the wikipedia. I did find this tho [1] If you give me a link, I could at least try to figure out what were talking about. My first guess is that there is someone else w the same name?

SimonP keeps on running circles and will never acknowledge anything. Everywhere I go in the net on Wikipedia, he is now reverting. I put more content on Arete (virtue) and he reverts it. back. This man has no classical training whatsoever. Please point to somebody that will help here Please point me to some higher ups here. WHEELER 16:51, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Need Help

[edit]

Since Wikipedia is a democracy, I guess I have to farm for votes. Two articles are up for deletion: one is specific for Classical studies, Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Vanavsos and the other is Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Family/State paradigm. Can I ask for you help in these matters. Thanks.WHEELER 15:08, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Obviously ...

[edit]

Hi Sam: At VfD Vanavsos you said that the article was "obviously encyclopedic". Whilst I agree that it should be kept, it seems to me that its qualities are not "obvious" because, were that so, it would not be up for deletion. "Obviously" can be read as "As any fool can see", which antagonises people who do not share the stated view. Since antagonists rarely listen, this militates against consensus. I hope that you find this helpful (obviously!). --Theo (Talk) 17:59, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

OK, thanks for the thoughtful note. I was quite aggravated because of a campaign against WHEELER and his articles, which you can learn more about by reviewing my talk page and/or its archives if you like, but I feel your advice was sound. Cheers, (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 19:11, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

removal of my comments from Talk pages

[edit]

Feel free to retract your comments from community Talk pages but kindly leave mine intact. Thank you. -- Viajero 19:41, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I did neither, your comments were deleted due to some sort of error. Sorry about any misunderstanding. (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 19:49, 4 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Words in my mouth

[edit]

I would very much appreciate if you not present my position for me. I find your summary of my position on this matter consistently unfortunate. As always, its just fine to go to me and say "I think what your saying is X, is that correct?", thereby giving me an opportunity to clarify "no, actually I was meaning Y" (or XY, etc..). Essentially I see you presenting an atmosphere of me being afraid of, or concerned by, potential arbitration. That could not be less true. I don't so much oppose arbitration as I do escalation of trivial matters. If I felt El C needed to be banned, I would have no qualms about moving efficiently and vigorously in that direction. If I felt I had committed some offense grievous enough to deserve censor, I would apologize. Those circumstances are not the case here. We have an entirely less serious matter we are dealing with, one that I have no fear of presenting before the arbiters, but also one I have no intent in bothering them with. In summary, feel free to come to me and clarify what you see my position to be, such dialogue would be welcome. Do not however speak for me to others, and if you do, expect immediate objection. (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 20:03, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Quite frankly, I have no clue what you mean. I have not, to my knowledge, characterized your position to arbitration as anything. I have only stated that no one wants it to get there, precisely because of the reasons you stated. I do wish you wouldn't be so quick to take offense. Wally 20:07, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)
"Both are eager that this problem should not reach arbitration."[2]
"I think all parties concerned are anxious that this be dealt with in a fair manner first and foremost and an amicable one next to that. Sam has repeatedly expressed his wish that this dispute not go to arbitration, and El_C echoes this, although we do feel that certain improper and uncivil behavior on Sam's part need to be addressed."[3]

I think those comments, and my responses to both, clarify the circumstance quite clearly. If not, feel free to review my replies to each at the pages in question. You have not offended my, BTW. Outside of not having communicated with myself very much, I think you've done a fair job as El C's advocate thus far. Cheers, (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 20:22, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I will do my best to continue to ensure that I speak with the utmost moderation. Wally 20:31, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

If so, I will continue to object to such "moderation" of my position. (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 22:45, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Conscious evolution

[edit]

Wasn't the consensus at VfD to delete this and not redirect it? SlimVirgin 02:50, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)

I don't know, but even if so, things change. (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 02:56, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Nothing has changed in the last two weeks. This situation arose recently with another page that someone re-created and redirected, and the admins simply deleted it again because there had been a clear and recent vote. Also, how did you manage to delete the edit history, and why? SlimVirgin 03:15, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)
Ok, I take it someone deleted it again and you recreated it once more, hence the missing page history. SlimVirgin 03:54, Mar 6, 2005 (UTC)

Mrfixter

[edit]

Hello Sam! I'm back, but probably just for a short short while. In your opinion, is Mrfixter a legitimate user or is he a sockpuppet for Adraeus? He was keeping an usually close watch on my user page. I asked for it to be deleted for privacy reasons, but Mrfixter insisted on reverting it. Sigh. BTW watch for the reaction from Mrfixter (or Adraeus, hehe) re this contribution. Cheers, Vincent 03:22, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I don't think Adraeus is banned anymore, so he shouldn't need a sockpuppet. I don't have any thoughts on Mrfixter. I'll have a look. Cheers, (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 13:03, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Firstly, good to see ya back Vince. Being banned for a month hasn't changed you one bit!
Secondly, if you feel that I am an Adraeus sockpuppet (I am not, although I would say that eh? ;)) report it to the Arbcom, since Adraeus would've been breaching the Arbcom ban. However, be aware that it would be likely that your evading of the Arbcom ban would also have to be discussed.
As your only back for a short short while, maybe you should get over to Arbcom extra quickly? --Mrfixter 19:33, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Please don't goad or intentionally annoy users seeking assistance on my page. Thanks. (Sam Spade | talk | contributions) 20:33, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Requesting a comment about Naming Policies

[edit]

Hello and greetings
I am an student from the National University of Saint Mark in Lima, Peru, or also called UNMSM, i wish to have your personal opinion about the naming policy of calling the university Saint Mark instead San Marcos, i am supporting Saint Mark based in the opinion of the Catholic Church (the same institution which named the university in the first place) precedent of anglicise the name.[4] Article from Catholic Encyclopedia. This user called User:Viajero is trying to impose his point of view even without reach a compromise about the use of the anglicise name, by his own is destroying and modifying all articles that has the name National University of Saint Mark replacing by his point of view of the name. I am still a newcomer to wikipedia, but i dont think so i deserve to be treated this way. Please it is urgently to have your opinion about this in the following link Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Interpretation of WP Naming_policies.Thank you to take time to read my dissertation. HappyApple 05:15, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Here is the key.

[edit]

Problem solved

  • Delete. According to WHEELER, "The question is 'Should people be voting on something they have not a clue on?'." On Wikipedia, the answer is "Yes, that's our policy." You've been around long enough to know this. You talk about the commercial ethos and the warrior ethos. Well, the Wiki ethos is that of open source. The theory is that, if we let a bunch of people without professional qualifications write and edit and delete pretty much as they please, a good encyclopedia will somehow emerge. I know you disagree with the theory and with the policy. That's certainly your privilege, and you have good company, such as the Encyclopedia Britannica pooh-bahs. As long as you stay here, though, you have to recognize that that's the way it works here. The MediaWiki software is available under the GFDL for anyone who wants to start a similar project but with stricter quality controls. By the way, to save you the trouble of clicking through to my user page, I'll admit right now that I'm not qualified as a classicist. JamesMLane 08:46, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I see your point. And it is very clear to me. This is in a sense "stricter quality control". Yes. But the "quality control" on wikipedia is Marxist and Fabian, Humanist and Modern. You have laid out very clearly to me that "who is in control here". The standards being that people who are ignorant of any subject but with a bias to protect can delete stuff off of Wikipedia. And that is not professional, academic, righteous (justice) or truthful. I understand perfectly what you are saying. I will not start another page nor work for Wikipedia (though I will transfer stuff here). I see clearly where this is going. I can do better and stop wasting my time here because surely I am. Thanks Mr. James MLane. You have certainly opened my eyes to the fundamental core of Wikipedia. And that yes, then Wikipedia is run by a cabal. And it is a fundamental lie that Mr. James MLane has exposed the fallacy "of free and open content". Wikipedia is not "an encylcopaedia" it's a "controlled information platform". The only "standards" is on form and writing alone but in the accords of "professionalism" and "truth" there is none.WHEELER 14:52, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)
