A review of the restaurant (*grin*): Bogdan | Talk 21:54, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Swim naked through raw, radioactive sewage before you venture a foot into this offence to restaurants. Atrocious food, even worse service and an almost 100 per cent guarantee that you will need to haggle over the appearance of things you did not order on the bill. Not even the historic building makes a meal here worthwhile. Dire, dire, dire, dire, dire. -- In Your Pocket guide
It's not actually that dire, although I wouldn't recommend it. If you are dragged there, stick to the ciorba, which is harmless, if not exciting. And make sure that at least one of the party speaks decent Romanian because, yes, you are likely to be overbilled. Also, the pastries at the smaller place facing Unirii are perfectly OK (though nothing to write home about) but the pizza there, I'm told, is as miserable as the food in the main restaurant. Oh, and I do not recommend it as a place to stay: I've never stayed there, but while I was living in Bucharest I tried to book a room for a friend's father who thought it would be worth trying, and the hotel staff were so miserable to deal with that I advised him to stay elsewhere. Still, in warm weather, in the courtyard, beer is beer, and there is often good music to be heard. We can all just hope for the day the place is under better management. Of course, the price of rooms will double. -- Jmabel | Talk 23:55, Jan 30, 2005 (UTC)

Romanian article

[edit]

There is a better article forming in the Romanian Wikipedia. Anyone feel like translating? - Jmabel | Talk 05:15, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Changes?

[edit]

I just got an email from someone saying that the Inn is currently closed. I haven't found anything solid about that yet, but I did find this:

I would imagine that the Cantacuzino, Lahovary, and Rosetti families would be trying to bring the place up to a higher standard, presumably without messing too much with the historic architecture. - Jmabel | Talk 19:50, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A longer story on the same from Adevărul, in Romanian. Plenty of this to be found by searching on Manuc + Han + Cantacuzino. [1], not a "reliable source" by Wikipedia standards says that they promptly closed it for a €10 million restoration. [2] appears to be a reprint of an article from Evenimentul Zilei to the same effect. It looks like City Grill, who already rescued the Caru' cu Bere, will be taking over the restaurant. - Jmabel | Talk 19:57, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
