Not a good idea. Wikipedia is not a Christian website or organisation - we do not, as a body, endorse a religion or its festivals. If we do Christmas, why not any other religious festival? --Oldak Quill 09:41, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Like Quill says. Wikipedia is very multicultural. - Vague | Rant 09:43, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)

As I said on Talk:Main Page, a santa's hat is not a problem, and commonly seen nearly everywhere on the globe by now. As long as we don't have Christ dangling from the logo on Good Friday, I don't see the problem. Christmas is the ideal festival for WP, because it is very multicultural itself (and not predominantly Christian at all), see Christmas#Theories_regarding_the_origin_of_the_date_of_Christmas. I wouldn't object to using special logos for other festivals, either. Not that I think it's really necessary, though. The time spent on designing cute logos would be better invested in improving a shoddy article somewhere... dab 11:57, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)

As long as we don't have Christ dangling from the logo on Good Friday, I don't see the problem. I'm glad I'd just swallowed that sip of tea, otherwise you'd have owed me a new keyboard. :-) JRM 12:05, 2004 Nov 30 (UTC)
Yeah, hey. As long as it's only a minority that are offended by Christmas decorations at Wikipedia, then they don't really matter. Oh, that's sarcasm. I am a sarcastic person. - Vague | Rant 03:07, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)
Santa is a servant of the Devil! Sent out by him to dilute the True Nature of Christmas! More seriously, how about Buddhist holy days? :) A-giau 06:18, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I would not say that Christmas is a multicultural festival at all. All, that I know, who belong to Islam and Judaism do not celebrate it. I, as an atheist, do not celebrate it - not do many of the agnosts and atheists I know. It is still a Christian festival - which has developed pseudo-secular myths. Again, Wikipedia, as a body, CANNOT endorse a religious (or otherwise, IMO) festival. --Oldak Quill 13:19, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Post-script - I was just thinking, how many of those who would celebrate Christmas would be spending much time on Wikipedia? Typically, only those who spend 25 December as a regular day would really spend much time on the site - and the celebration would be lost on them, or worse - offend them. --Oldak Quill 13:22, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Oppose, since Christmas originated as a pagan festival. Ditto for Easter. This is not Google; keep the logo the same, without catering to wicked holidays. Rad Racer | Talk 19:14, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit]

I just replaced the links to here on November 2004 and Current events with the proper link Christmas. Please don't do that again. I also removed the mentioning entirely on the commons front page. -- Chris 73 Talk 07:44, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)
