Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to the edit warring noticeboard

This page is for reporting active edit warriors and recent violations of restrictions like the three-revert rule.

You must notify any user you have reported.

You may use {{subst:An3-notice}} ~~~~ to do so.

You can subscribe to a web feed of this page in either RSS or Atom format.

    Additional notes
    • When reporting a user here, your own behavior will also be scrutinized. Be sure you understand WP:REVERT and the definitions below first.
    • The format and contents of a 3RR/1RR report are important, use the "Click here to create a new report" button below to have a report template with the necessary fields to work from.
    • Possible alternatives to filing here are dispute resolution, or a request for page protection.
    • Violations of other restrictions, like WP:1RR violations, may also be brought here. Your report should include two reverts that occurred within a 24-hour period, and a link to where the 1RR restriction was imposed.

    Definition of edit warring
Edit warring is a behavior, typically exemplified by the use of repeated edits to "win" a content dispute. It is different from a bold, revert, discuss (BRD) cycle. Reverting vandalism and banned users is not edit warring; at the same time, content disputes, even egregious point of view edits and other good-faith changes do not constitute vandalism. Administrators often must make a judgment call to identify edit warring when cooling disputes. Administrators currently use several measures to determine if a user is edit warring.
Definition of the three-revert rule (3RR)
An editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Violations of this rule normally attract blocks of at least 24 hours. Any appearance of gaming the system by reverting a fourth time just outside the 24-hour slot is likely to be treated as a 3RR violation. See here for exemptions.

Sections older than 48 hours are archived by Lowercase sigmabot III.

There is constant disagreement with either English or French as the original versions of the show. Even though I provided lots of evidence, this user remains unconvinced. Please help us resolve this conflict, and apologize if this report is inadequate as I do not use Wikipedia often and this is my first time making this kind of report. Please feel free to block me if a resolution is made.

User being reported: Amigao (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

On the Anti-Chinese sentiment page, the user Amigao has made more than 4 reverts of relevant and concise content supported by high quality academic citations.

He has done this in a space of less than 24 hours.

    Diffs:

He also frequently employs jargon and bombards users with technicalities in order to make their life difficult, deleting relevant, high quality, and well-referenced edits from neutral academic sources of good repute.

He also appears to have been fixated in particular on disrupting my edits, as I happen to see him on every page I work on.

    Appreciate assistance here.

I leave the rest up to the admins to decide. RumyantsevPolkovodets (talk) 19:46, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
accuse me of "Refusing to discuss on the talk page". What exactly are you talking about?
I'm one of three editors who removed your WP:FORUM-y talk page comments, you do realize, right?--Ermenrich (talk) 19:48, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Refuses to use the talk page for its intended purpose" ???
Yes I am aware, what's your point exactly? You still made several undos refusing to explain and just kept saying "WP:FORUM-y" as if that ment something or justified something. RumyantsevPolkovodets (talk) 19:51, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Read the policy WP:NOTAFORUM please. You are using our talk pages as forums to promote your WP:POV (writing that "Ukrainians are really just Russians who were occupied by Poland" and decrying the horrible injustice done to Russia by using the name "Kyiv" have zero applicability to improving the article) rather than to improve the article.
As I said, I'm not the only editor who told you this, so did Ealdgyth and CFA. If multiple editors tell you something, it behooves you to listen rather than insist that your interpretation of policy is correct.--Ermenrich (talk) 20:01, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are the one who should read it, please. With each comment I get more and more the feeling that I am getting trolled.
"writing that "Ukrainians are really just Russians who were occupied by Poland""
So you got that from this comment: "Senderovich, Savely (2007). "К истории восточнославянского имени Владимир" (PDF). Славяноведение. 2: 10.
The old Slavic spelling is literally "Владимиръ". There are literal coins recovered from his reign spelling it that way."???
And btw. if what you stated classifies as removable POV pushing, then why is this comment not removed again:
"Russia back then Moskovia that took roots from Golden Horde and is a hybrid formation that formed its language mostly out of Ukraine and Belorussia has nothing to do with Kyivan Rus and it’s history, absolutely nothing"???
Again, either remove both or accept both. Pick one. Otherwise you are subject to POV pushing accusations.
You have yet to explain how adressing the spelling of the literal name of the person the article is about does not "improve the article".
As I said, I stated this multiple times to the others who madethe wise thing and accepted being incorrect.
Just because mutliple people repeat the same nonsense, it doesn't make you any more correct and just keep copy pasting the same policy you failed to comprehend. RumyantsevPolkovodets (talk) 20:09, 30 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Comments:

I have repeatedly warned this user against edit warring, yet they continue to force their unconstructive changes. The lead should only include essential information that is mentioned in the body of the article (per MOS:INTRO and WP:ONUS). The sentence they keep adding ("...ethnic group native to the Aurès region in northeastern Algeria. which spans Constantine, Setif, Batna, Khenchla, Oum El Bouaghi and Tébessa provinces located in and surrounded by the Aurès Mountains.") is poorly written, confusing and contains irrelevant details not covered in the body of the article. The three sources they've cited to justify their changes—Minority Rights Group, a blog article from Algeria.com, and a Persee article from 1950—either do not support their changes at all, are unreliable, or are outdated, respectively. Frankly, this user seems to be a single-purpose account, clearly demonstrating WP:NOTHERE behavior and only using Wikipedia as a WP:BATTLEGROUND to push some sort of ethnic POV on a narrow range of articles, judging by their constant baseless personal attacks/aspersions, WP:FORUMSHOPPING,[34][35][36][37][38] and WP:BLUDGEONING/WP:CANVASSING.[39][40][41][42] Skitash (talk) 10:50, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User @Skitash has removed a section of the article Chaoui people that has existed for well over several years now as you can see here, the section removed by the user concerns areas of concentration of chaoui people in algeria in tbessa, Batna, Oum Bouaghi ...etc [[43]] and here 2018. his removal of deleting information from this small Wikipedia article, undermines the article's development. Deleting content from this article can prevent them from growing and improving. the user hereby actively violates Wikipedia:PRESERVE and despite several warnings as in the list provided here he still persists in edit warring to remove this section off the talk page:
    Reverse edit
    Reverse edit 2
    Reverse edit 3
    and several more...
The sources provided are added after @Skitash began deleting the information in the article without valid reason undermining the integrity of the article. the sources provided are
Chaoui people#cite note-5 1950 demographic research by the French state during colonization of algeria, this source is intended to prove that chaouis lived in these regions from long ago and these areas of concentration are not recent
Chaoui people#cite note-4 An up to date tour guide blog discussing in summary general information about the Chaoui people.
https://minorityrights.org/communities/amazigh/ this 3rd and final source is a 2023 minorityrights website link from a UK minority Rights website that gives further information on berber people including chaouis.
Further academic sources from Algerian Institutes of Higher learning can be provided to show the areas of concentration are as mentioned such as [1] "Chaoui (concentratedmainly in Khenchela, Batna, Oum Bouaghi, and Tebassa...etc" but this is highly unnecessary since no one is disputing their areas of concentration.
@Skitash simply wants to delete a piece of information off an article based off his erratic behavior in causing a huge wikipedia dispute on Algeria, he engaged in Edit warring several times with users in one Algeria article recently as you can see below:
    August
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Algeria&oldid=1241478538

    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Algeria&oldid=1233140750
user @Skitash trying to push his POV on Ethnic groups and creating irrational points has caused a massive problem in Talk:Algeria#Ethnic groups Algeria that ended in an ongoing RfC resolution here Talk:Algeria#RfC on ethnic groups in the infobox. several users are engaging to resolve the issue that @Skitash has caused. his clear ethnic POV bias is shown in his edits on the following articles shows his clear tendencies towards arab nationalism in areas not concerned with it :
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Racism_in_the_Arab_world&oldid=1242454146
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Culture_of_Morocco&oldid=1243077796
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Arab_nationalism&oldid=1242959612
@Skitash therefore has caused several problems in an article after another and constantly breaks wikipedia rules including WP:VANDAL , Wikipedia:PRESERVE and engages in uncivil Ethnic POV bias with several users as the Replying on Talk:Algeria - Wikipedia shows, his erratic behaviour causes a lot of problems with not only the wikipedia community but also uses wikipedia for acts of dissention and causing discord through vandalism WP:BATTLEGROUND as he did in Chaoui people page . the user claims several false violations on my part despite my clean record. Potymkin (talk) 13:06, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    1. "his removal of deleting information from this small Wikipedia article, undermines the article's development" I reverted your edit because it was 1. unconstructive 2. badly written and 3. poorly sourced. All of the sources you provided either did not support the content you added, were unreliable, or were outdated. I've already explained this above. Prior to your edits to the article, the lead was entirely made up of unsourced WP:OR, and should've been deleted and replaced with actual sourced content (as I have done here). Knowingly adding unsourced/poorly sourced WP:OR is forbidden on Wikipedia. Reverting editors for adding poorly sourced content does not constitute vandalism as you claim.
    2. I have not made more than three reverts within a 24-hour period. You, on the other hand, have made four edits, which means you have violated WP:3RR.
    3. Your first source is 74 years old and clearly not reliable to be used for the contemporary demographic situation of the Chaoui people. Your second source is a blog. WP:BLOGS are not acceptable as sources. Your third source[44] makes two brief, passing mentions of "Chaoui" and does not in any way support your claim that Chaouis inhabit "Constantine, Setif, Batna, Khenchla, Oum El Bouaghi and Tébessa", and all these regions.
    4. Your source from the Algerian Institute of Higher learning states "Tamazight consists essentially, besides an array of yet other varieties, of Chaoui (concentrated mainly in Khenchela, Batna, Oum Bouaghi, and Tebassa; with yet...". This is clearly about the Shawiya language and not the Chaoui people. This constitutes source misinterpretation on your end.
    5. Links to random edits I made and content disputes I was involved in on Algeria have nothing to do with this conversation. What's going on in Talk:Algeria#RfC on ethnic groups in the infobox is an edit conflict that has no bearing with my behavior.
    6. I'm unsure why you've inserted links to my reversals of disruptive vandals on Racism in the Arab world, Culture of Morocco, and Arab nationalism. Again, what does this have to do with this conversation and the fact that you violated WP:3RR?
    7. Reverting unconstructive and poorly sourced edits is not vandalism. The ethnic POV you're speaking of is only evident in your contributions and your focus on a narrow range of articles. Skitash (talk) 13:47, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your constant vandalism in one article after the other casing edit warring in each has reached a point of culmination. it is safe for me to assume that the act, of vandalism is spreading to the
    Chaoui People
    article.
    • 1 The section on areas of concentration for the Chaoui people has existed for years, and its removal without a thorough discussion can be seen as undermining the article's development. While you claim the edit was unconstructive, the historical context provided by the sources, even if dated, is crucial for understanding the long-standing presence of the Chaoui people in specific regions. The aim should be to improve and source the information, not to delete it entirely.
    • 2 Regarding the sources, like the 1950 demographic research, are important historical data is significant in providing a background to the current population distribution. The source from the Algerian Institute, mentions the following "The Tamazight-speaking population (Amazigh or Imazighen) stands for about 35% of the Algerian population in its entirety. Tamazight consists essentially, besides an array of yet other varieties, of Chaoui (concentrated mainly in Khenchela, Batna, Oum Bouaghi, and Tebassa; with yet lesser attendance in other regions like Soug Ahrass, Setif, Annaba, and Biskra" clearly talks of a population not a language.
    • 3 While you assert that I violated WP:3RR, it is important to note that my reverts were made to preserve long-standing content that was removed without proper discussion. The edit history shows a pattern of removal rather than collaborative improvement, which can be seen as detrimental to the article's integrity.
    • 4 the linked disputes on other articles like Algeria and Racism in the Arab world illustrate a broader pattern of behavior that raises concerns about POV editing on Arab Nationalism that coincide with the act of vandalism in the Chaoui people aticle
    • 5 The repeated removal of content related to the Chaoui people without a robust rationale is vandalism and can be perceived as an attempt to downplay their significance in these regions. Wikipedia's policies on neutrality and preservation should guide us in maintaining a balanced and comprehensive article.
    Potymkin (talk) 14:14, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    1. It doesn't matter how long it existed for. It was unsourced WP:OR and should've been removed or sourced way earlier. You've added three sources recently, but as I have pointed out, all of them are unreliable and shouldn't be used. Either way, adding all those provinces to the lead in Chaoui people is redundant since the lead in Aurès already lists all the provinces it spans. "native to the Aurès region in northeastern Algeria" says the same thing in fewer words, which is exactly what we should be doing per MOS:INTRO and MOS:SUMMARY.
    2. "Tamazight-speaking population" simply means people who speak Tamazight, who don't necessarily have to be Berbers. A Chaoui speaker is not necessarily an ethnic Chaoui, and vice versa. Assuming otherwise is WP:OR.
    3. Again, the "long-standing content" you added was unsourced. This doesn't improve the article at all and only introduces verifiability issues instead.
    4. In Racism in the Arab world, I reverted a disruptive IP for adding random unrelated wikilinks to the "See also" section. This is very random and entirely irrelevant to this discussion, and I have no idea why you're bringing it up here. Accusing me of being an "Arab nationalist" for doing this is a personal attack at best. Skitash (talk) 14:26, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Note to administrators: @Potymkin has just made a fifth revert on Chaoui people despite being fully aware of WP:3RR and the fact that I've opened an edit warring noticeboard report here regarding their violations of WP:3RR. Skitash (talk) 14:36, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you have dragged your Ethnic identity talk here aswell just like you did in Talk:Algeria#Ethnic groups Algeria. we are not talking about ethnic identity here simply demographic distribution. your points about linguistic or ethnic identification does not belong in this talk. he historical context provided by the sources, even if dated, is crucial for understanding the long-standing presence of a population in a region, your claims on unreliability is POV and has no basis concerning scholarly publications such as [2]
since chaoui is a linguistic branch from the Tamazight language group and chaouis belong toi the Amazigh Ethnic group, here we are talking of a variation of the Tamazight language spoken by Ethnic Amazighs which identify each other based on language chaoui not the race, (All chaouis, Kabyles are Amazigh but not all amazighs are chaouis). therefore when the source discusses distribution of chaouis we are talking about Amazigh Ethnic people that speak a varation of tamazight called chaoui and that is how they are identified. the source publication talks about distribution of chaouis in the area simply and clearly.
your statement 'Ethnic Chaoui' is ridiculous because berbers identify with each other based on spokenvariation of a language not the ethnicity because they are all ethnically berber. this shows clearly how you continue to constantly engage in Wikipedia:No original research and completely misrepresent information on the platform
in the other articles such as:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Racism_in_the_Arab_world&oldid=1242454146
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Culture_of_Morocco&oldid=1243077796
    https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Arab_nationalism&oldid=1242959612
you engaged in constant edit warring and still continue to do so in other articles. these are simply the tip of the iceberg. Potymkin (talk) 14:43, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will not repeat myself or engage with these absurd attempts to depict me as an edit warrior for reverting disruptive IPs and vandals on random articles. I’ll leave it to the administrators to address the fact that you blatantly made five reverts within a 24-hour period while being well aware of WP:3RR and your evident WP:NOTHERE, WP:SPA, and WP:BATTLEGROUND behavior. Skitash (talk) 14:49, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have edited the Chaoui people page to attempt to supply the article with proper sources in accordance with the matter at hand being 'undersourced'. often times it is important to do a few changes to an edit in case spelling is wrong or clarification must be added. however your behavoiour on the otherhand is vandalous, not only have you removed content but you have also not academically sourced your counter claims and have constantly undid revisions to obstruct any attempts to improve the article.
however, it is scandalous to sit here and pretend like you have done nothing wrong concerning other wikipedia articles
