How is The Lion King categorized as fantasy film? Why is Raiders of the Lost Ark here but not the two sequels? Kowloonese 00:03, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Could someone point out few movies that are real fantasy (like that from books, role playing games and computer role playing games), like Dragonheart, Dungeons and Dragons (movie), Lord of the Rings,(Harry Potter), and not a sci-fi or children fairytales?

I beg to differ, Fairy Tales are certainly fantasy. Tend to be quite a bit more fantastic than the stuff you mentioned, no less!. Science Fiction, however, are not. Jachra 06:43, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Real fantasy films are rare. Try The Princess Bride, Ladyhawke, Time Bandits, Jumanji, and the animated The Last Unicorn. Rick Norwood 23:34, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, Eragon, Conan the Barbarian exe 03:48, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This list is the worst thing I've ever seen. Major reeditting is needed. I added Dumb & Dumber as a fantasy film to be fun (it can join Babe and Groundhog Day as fantasy movie). - Tune Clausen

Groundhog Day, oddly enough, does work. What about repeating a day isn't fantasy? Do you believe this occurs often? Jachra 06:43, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just added In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. I know it is from Uwe Boll, but it can still be called a movie.

The 13th Warrior

[edit]

I removed The 13th Warrior from the list because it's historical fiction, not fantasy. 218.215.128.54 12:36, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I only did it today. Turns out I forgot to do it yesterday. 218.215.130.214 03:18, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It seems a lot of people do consider it to be fantasy so I've put it back. 218.215.141.227 06:05, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

X-Men and Spider-Man

[edit]

Some superhero films are fantasy but others are clearly science fiction. Spider-Man gets his powers by being bitten by a genetically-engineered spider. All of his enemies get their powers by scientific experiments gone wrong. Mutants get their powers due to specific gene in their DNA. They are not wizards and sorcerers. I'll remove these from the list. 218.215.128.54 12:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Although they often play in both genre's, these films barely dable in sci-fi, they could easily go on both lists, but the whole idea of the comic-book superhero IS fantasy, so that's why they are included here. Andrzejbanas 19:00, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, I don't feel strongly about this. 218.215.130.214 03:17, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WorldCat Genres

[edit]

Hello, I'm working with OCLC, and we are algorithmically generating data about different Genres, like notable Authors, Book, Movies, Subjects, Characters and Places. We have determined that this Wikipedia page has a close affintity to our detected Genere of fantasy-films. It might be useful to look at [1] for more information. Thanks.
