[edit]

As John Trenchard (Secretary of State) and John Trenchard (writer) were earlier mixed as one person and one article, I'm not sure which one of them was a member of parliament for Taunton. If somebody knows or is able to check, please confirm or correct.

Year of birth - 1640 or 1649 or something else??

[edit]

The article quotes DNB's YoB as 1640. However, History of Parliament - see http://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1690-1715/member/trenchard-sir-john-1649-95 - gives the more realistic year of 1649. Which is right? His parents apparently married 14 Jan 1638 at Crewkerne. If so, then he was their 3rd son (Thomas, Robert, John) born just two years after the parents' marriage (there are also Anne, Elizabeth and Mary before him !!). HoP also gives his matriculation at New College as 1665 - so aged 16 if you believe HoP or aged 25 if you believe DNB.

I give notice that I will change the YoB to be 1649 in a week's time, quoting HoP - but noting the error in DNB. OK? 86.188.102.76 (talk) 00:32, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry - I've added this already. It's difficult to imagine him studying at secondary school, aged 25 !! 86.188.102.76 (talk) 15:07, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
