Major employers

[edit]

I have not heard back from anyone so I am just going to post the source of the list. If anyone has a problem let me know http://www.profitworks.ca/blog/902-blog/82-largest-employers-in-waterloo-and-kitchener —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.231.43.225 (talk) 17:09, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The list of so called major employers seems arbitary. Does anybody object if that list was replaced by information published by the Region here?: http://www.region.waterloo.on.ca/web/region.nsf/DocID/BAA71BA8546D426D85256AF700553209?OpenDocument

An excellent list; go for it. Radagast 00:58, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)
I added the top ten, I know some people are going to be disappointed Research in Motion didn't make the list, but that is the way the chips fall. --Jdeboer 02:40, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Issues

[edit]

Hi, It appears this article is referencing information I complied in 2010 on my website yet not providing my website as the source. Would it be possible to source my list via a link? The webpage is http://www.profitworks.ca/component/content/article/902-blog/82-largest-employers-in-waterloo-and-kitchener.

I plan up updating this list annually.

Please advise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrisrkeller (talkcontribs) 03:55, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Urban Sprawl needs to be added as one of the issues as this is done extensivly.

Done! I always thought that section looked odd with a single little sentence, anyway. Radagast 22:22, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
On the contrary, Waterloo Region is geographically small. Urban sprawl isn't much of a problem here. tyx (talk) 20:37, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not? Ask anyone about the Waterloo moraine and they may say otherwise. As the country's 4th densest CMA http://www12.statcan.ca/english/census06/data/popdwell/Table.cfm?T=205&SR=1&S=10&O=D&RPP=33 there are obviously debates about outwards vs upwards. On the, uh, contrary, as a small geographical area any sprawl is magnified.

If anyone's interested, please comment on the message I left at Wikipedia:Canadian wikipedians' notice board/discussion#Mass-move of Ontario Regional Municipality pages. Thanks. --Qviri 06:16, 1 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Region of Waterloo.jpg

[edit]

Image:Region of Waterloo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:02, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other Issues

[edit]

There are almost no citations, with entire sections having none.

These sentences seem to be speculation and off target: "As house prices in the Toronto area increase, Waterloo Region is increasingly becoming an attractive area to reside in." Is that really the main reason - is it not due to local growing employers such as RIM, the universities etc.? Would people worried about house prices in Toronto not stay in Mississauga, Oakville, Brampton, Oshawa etc. blah blah?

"This, among other factors, has made new residential construction rates very high;" -- Citation please. Houses for 160,00 $CDN are high? Compared to what?

"Waterloo is one of the fastest growing regions in the Golden Horseshoe." In Canada, actually: http://www12.statcan.ca/english/census06/data/popdwell/Table.cfm?T=205&SR=1&S=5&O=D&RPP=33. Camcurwood (talk) 03:05, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're right about the lack of citations, but it is true that a lot of people are moving to region due to much lower house prices. It's not the only reason, but it's certainly in the top 3.pjh3000 (talk) 03:26, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lois Maxwell and the Notable Residents

[edit]

I could not tell in what order the notable residents were listed (it looks like no order at all) so I added Lois into the third position, as she was born before those after, more famous than them all but Lewis, yet maybe not as 'important' as King and Seagram. Maybe we could come up with a good way to order the whole list. (Alphabetical?, earliest?) Camcurwood (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:43, 19 June 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Indigenous History

[edit]

I am new to wikipedia editing but would like to spend some time updating and adding sources to pre-european arrival history of the region. I am curious who wrote the existing paragraph about the Attawanderon. Thoughts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.210.143.50 (talk) 14:20, 6 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Regional Municipality of Waterloo

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Regional Municipality of Waterloo's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "cp2001":

  • From Haliburton County: "Population and Dwelling Counts, for Canada, Provinces and Territories, and Census Divisions, 2001 and 1996 Censuses". 2001 Census. Statistics Canada.
  • From Hastings County: Statistics Canada 2001 Census - Hastings County
  • From Lanark County: "Population and Dwelling Counts, for Canada, Provinces and Territories, and Census Divisions, 2001 and 1996 Censuses".

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 05:37, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tri-Cities article

[edit]

Should Tri-Cities (Ontario) be merged here and deleted? Two articles about the same place. 2001:56A:F290:8900:680B:C464:2C5D:3FA6 (talk) 04:05, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Don't think there's anything worth merging from Tri-Cities (Ontario), probably can just delete William Spaetzel (talk) 13:40, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've made Tri-Cities (Ontario) a redirect to here. Agreed with above, no reason for 2 articles. 2001:56A:F290:8900:3051:1E52:FF5:3B65 (talk) 19:57, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
