Divestment
[edit]Have added some additional tags to the divestment section. Am unsure generally if the section deserves to stay and thought I should gauge opinions here about if it is relevant and how to clean up the section. Tbyrn21 (talk) 03:54, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Tbyrn21: This section describes a fossil fuel divestment campaign at the University of Queensland. Is this not relevant to the article? Jarble (talk) 13:01, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Jarble: While fossil fuel investment is an ongoing discussion in Australia, the section here isn't adequately summarised. It reads like a political campaign or a list with some details that could be considered insignificant and needs improved referencing. There is no need for removal, just a re-write. - The section is about a relevant controversy, albeit it is somewhat wordy and in need of readability improvements. 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓔𝓭𝓾𝓬𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓐𝓾𝓭𝓲𝓽𝓸𝓻 20:22, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
"Queensland University"
[edit]Has there been any discussion on that name? There's a big sign on the road into UQ which has that printed on it, but other than that and the three references which purportedly support the name (all three do not support that name btw at least on the first read of them), there's not much in the way of support for this name. The act of parliament that established the university also specifically says:
"4. Establishment of university .. (1)A university called ‘The University of Queensland’ is established."
https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/html/inforce/current/act-1998-005#sec.4
Always happy to be educated if there's more to it than this, but I'm yet to see anything that would convince me this is a real alternative name used anywhere at any point. If there is, please replace the three mostly useless links to sources that actually verify it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.102.10.37 (talk) 04:04, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
