Dear 194.249.36.106, the "barbaric state" simply means a state other than Roman Empire or a new state established after the fall of the Empire, not "underdevelop", "cruel" etc.!

Are caranthanians called themselves as 'caranthanians'? If called, how name 'slovenian' survived?

Slovenians could have called there self Caranthanians if they wanted and maybe it would even be more suitable.

"Alpine Slavs"?

[edit]

This is a peyorative way to call old slovenians. I think it offensive and following old pangermanistics ideas. If not, let´s call bavarians as "pre alpine Germans". I prefer to call things by their name. About the authors mentioned by Jalen they are known for beings nostalgic of Yugoslavia, I mean panslavic ideology.--Marcos G.
