Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Pyrop

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

withdrawn (9/3/1) ending 06:35, Jan 03, 2005 (UTC)

I've been around since June 24, 2004. I tend to concentrate on articles on Japanese pop culture, anime, literature, and mathematics, although i make forays into other random areas and do a sizeable amount of janitor work, such as keeping watch on Template:Opentask, doing cleanup on articles i come across, and doing what i can with pages on Wikipedia:Duplicate articles. I started Wikiproject Anime and manga, because i noticed a lot of inconsistency in the anime articles on Wikipedia. It's still in its formative stages but is growing.

I figure if i'm not admin quality by now, i'm doing something hideously wrong i haven't noticed. :)

Because of personal issues unrelated to Wikipedia, i have decided to withdraw my nomination. -℘yrop (talk) 18:18, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)

  1. Good maintainance work. utcursch 08:05, Dec 27, 2004 (UTC)

  3. I've seen some work before, including some of the NGE work mentioned below, and I'm happy to support. - RedWordSmith 16:50, Dec 28, 2004 (UTC)
  4. I have seen some of his edits, and they seem good enough for sysop access. We can always use janitors. Jordi· 07:57, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Oppose

  1. Great work so far, but i still think Pyrop needs more experience working in and with the community here. i will probably support at a later date, once more experience is acquired. Kingturtle 05:54, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  2. Second Kingturtle. Pyrop needs more experience. --Gene s 06:01, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  3. I think you handled Kris45 badly as I explained in the RfC talk page. I think you need a much stronger commitment to dialogue and an understanding of what wikis are. I don't see that you have any broader problem so this is a very weak vote against and if you remind me in a month, I'll reconsider, check your talk page and support you if you don't make it this time.Dr Zen 06:24, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Neutral

  1. Not keen on the way this user uses lower case i as a word in his acceptance. Bush Me Up 23:20, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)
It's a bad habit, but seeing as none of my editing in Wikipedia should be in the first person, it shouldn't be a problem... -℘yrop (talk) 23:30, Jan 2, 2005 (UTC)
User:Bush Me Up has less than 100 edits. —Ben Brockert (42) UE News 00:43, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)
...and proud of it. Bush Me Up 02:28, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Comments

  • Pyrop has 1903 edits, more that 1300 of which are to the main space. His first edit was at 21:00 on June 24 2004. He has had less than 50 edits to his talk page, and watched the movie Northfork last night. —Ben Brockert (42) UE News 00:43, Jan 3, 2005 (UTC)
  • Since the voting is already closed, I have one comment about the frivolous CSD nominations of articles to be merged [1] [2] [3] [4] and articles like Xavier de Maistre. [5] It’s easier to remove the {{nonsense}} tags from articles on the speedy list than to scan the logs and undelete them, so please don’t delete articles that have not been already nominated for deletion by someone else for some good reason. Thanks. Rafał Pocztarski 12:04, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. Watching for vandals, deletion. I've run into several occasions when it would have been useful to have deletion priveleges to fix problems with page moving, and i think the easy reversion will be a convenience.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I've been working on Neon Genesis Evangelion and related articles, and think i've made it less of a mess than when i started, though it still needs much work. I'm pleased that i managed to make 8-Circuit Model of Consciousness into something that makes sense. I did a rewrite on Pocky, and destubbed Demian, an article on a piece of classic literature i thought Wikipedia needed.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A. I have a RFC running against what looks like a group of sockpuppets at Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Kris45. I felt the user was obviously a troll at the time, and was getting frustrated that i couldn't get anyone to take action against him, but i realised my being a little too harsh with him at first may have incited him further, and will try to be less stiff in the future. I wouldn't say this is characteristic of me in general, though; I'm willing to negotiate conflicts with any user who's willing to communicate with me. There are a few examples of this on my talk page.
