Plagarism

[edit]

Please read the plagiarism guideline.

There is a lot of text in Wikiepdia copied from sources that are copyright expired or Licence compatible sources (see Category:Attribution templates), these include American and British Government sources, indeed I suspect that Wikipedia had a large influence on the British Government protect fronted by the UK National Archives (see Open Government Licence). Also Wikiepdia has whole projects dedicated to copying information from PD sources. See for example WP:WP DNB and WP:EB1911. There are currently about 7,500 articles in the Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from the Dictionary of National Biography and and about 12,000 Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica.

If you think that articles such as Richard Williams (alias Cromwell)are using archaic language then you are free to copy edit it and bring it up to date. When I created the article I did so expecting people to do that. But I felt that it was better to have the biography in existence and in a form that is both easily accessible and editable than having a stub or no article at all. -- PBS (talk) 17:05, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
