Movement vs music

[edit]

yo, article-writer, do you work for Pitchfork or something? Branca "aligned himself" with his MUSIC, not with a so-called "movement". There WAS no "No Wave" movement, except in the minds (and drawers) of music journalists.

Wikipedia articles are collaborative projects, they have more than one writer. Hyacinth 12:03, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, there was a no wave movement. Watch "Punk:Attitude." Glenn Branca himself talks about his love for the no wave monement. --128.205.124.77 21:52, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yer both right. I couldn't have "aligned" myself with a movement that didn't exist when I started Theoretical Girls in 1977. The term No Wave was coined by Roy Traiken (sp?) in spring 1978. He was a journalist writing for either NY Rocker or The Soho News. I'm not sure which at this point. Both papers are defunct. The point is T-Girls were included with about 8-9 other bands. The problem came when Eno showed up in New York wanting to do a No Wave compilation. As I heard it his original album was to include 10 bands, 2 short cuts each. As it turned out he went with the "East Village" side of the scene and in many people's minds the bands on No New York WERE the No Wave bands. In fact there were also the "Soho" bands like T-Girls and The Gynecologists (great band, Nina Canal) and Tone Death and Boris Police Band and also Red Transitor (from the Brooklyn side) not to mention Terminal and The Communists. Yes I loved being part of this movement but I couldn't have aligned myself with something that I was already a part of from the beginning.
Thank You, Glenn Branca
holy shit it's Glenn Branca
Perhaps. Hyacinth 17:54, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. One never knows. Antandrus (talk) 00:36, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt Bach thought of himself as a baroque composer, but we have to disscuss him as if he were one to get any where. We should at least note that Mr. Branca is placed in the "No Wave" category in the minds of many people.

False information

[edit]

BE ADVISED: THIS WIKIPEDIA BIO ENTRY CONTAINS FALSE AND MISLEADING INFORMATION. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR ACCURATE INFO. Thanks Again, Glenn Branca

What in particular? Just the category, Category:No Wave? —Keenan Pepper 13:26, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The story about the N. Dodo band is all true and you know it Glenn. I say this because you are not telling us what in particular is "false and misleading." For the records, the Placenter was where you started, and you should give credit to those who helped you along the way, by Zaziezuzu 20:18, October 22 2006

I'd like to start by thanking Mr. Branca for not giving into the temptation to edit his own article. Does anyone know where one could find definitive biographies of Mr. Branca or analysis of his music? All I can find are informal reviews.GolumTR 15:30, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, you guys really think that's Glenn Branca? You think a guy like him is going to go on his own wiki page and tell people they're wrong? You think he cares? Thanks, Glenn Branca. PitchBrick 17:23, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cause of throat cancer

[edit]

It might be worthwhile to include a mention that Branca was a chain smoker for most of his life, and that this may have had something to do with his throat cancer. 76.189.141.37 (talk) 03:31, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
