Could you supply a photo of the ship for the SS John W. Brown article? Gdr 12:58, 2004 Oct 19 (UTC)

Mission statement

[edit]

The following is the official stated mission of Project Liberty Ship:

Project Liberty Ship is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the Liberty ship SS John W. Brown as a living memorial to the men and women of American industry who built the great Liberty Fleet and to the merchant seamen and Naval Armed Guards who sailed the ships across all the oceans of the world.

this was edited to:

Project Liberty Ship is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the Liberty ship SS John W. Brown as a memorial to the men and women who built the Liberty Ships and to the sailors who served in them.

The problem is that there are now a couple of subtle differences in the mission statement. The word living was used to emphasis that the JWB is a fully operation ship - not a static display. Replacing the phrase merchant seamen and Naval Armed Guards with word sailors would lead most readers to think that these ships were manned by all Navy crews. As for the other edits - no problem, but they are not the official stated mission.

I would like to revert the first paragraph, and maybe add that this is the stated mission. Regards Oldfarm 00:38, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Yes, it should be fine to quote the mission statement. Gdr 01:02, 2004 Nov 2 (UTC)
