Active Volcanic Systems

[edit]

"The island has 30 active volcanic systems, of which 13 have erupted since the settlement of Iceland in AD 874." Why are the 17 volcanic systems, which have not erupted for over a thousand years, still regarded as active? John.D.Ward (talk) 10:06, 16 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

To the administrators: Why can't by image be inserted here?? It's on my contribution list under the right title: Image:Grábrókkrater.jpg.

You should try uploading the picture again without the special characters (á & ó) in the file name.--Biekko 22:30, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Thank you.

In the end, I didn`t that, but I copied the title of my image and replaced the one in the first try by it. It functioned.

1875 Eruption?

[edit]

The Icelandic Canadian page recounts an 1874 eruption which was the stimulus for the mass emigration of Icelanders to Manitoba and the formation of New Iceland there.....I"m under the impression this had to do with floods from Vatnajökull - jökulhlaups? (not sure I've spelled that right)...from something I read about the emigration long ago, the name stuck in my head I guess....I thought it was in the 1890s, though......I'm just wanting to link to the eruption or volcano from the mention on the Icelandic Canadian page, and to specify there which volcano/volcanic feature was involved. Can someone answer this, as to which volcano it was? I do remember floods were involved....a List of volcanic eruptions in Iceland might be a good idea, no?....Skookum1 (talk) 01:47, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

here is the ref used on the Icelandic Canadian page.Skookum1 (talk) 01:49, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

David Waugh

[edit]

In the references section, there is a link to a David Waugh. Unfortunately not to the correct David Waugh. Could someone, who knows how to link authors, correct this? Fomalhaut76 (talk) 15:01, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done, it's now a redlink to David Waugh EdwardLane (talk) 14:16, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of Grábrók

[edit]

It is placed by the eruption in Hóluhraun, but has nothing to do with that. Imho it should be removed. 195.249.232.63 (talk) 17:35, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are right but it is hard to position pictures - suggest remove if topical picture from the commons showing an eruption can be added in place ChaseKiwi (talk) 22:37, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Orientation at start of article

[edit]

Even given the continuing tendency of the media to misname volcanic events based on other geographical features in Iceland perhaps these two lines at start of article could be removed now as they distract from readability and when do you stop:

The volcano system in Iceland that started activity on August 17, 2014, and ended on February 27, 2015, is Bárðarbunga.
The volcano in Iceland that erupted in May 2011 is Grímsvötn.

I have tried to improve other aspects of the article. ChaseKiwi (talk) 22:34, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
