Downloading Wiki

[edit]

I need a copy of Wikipedia for use in college, which doesnt have an internet connection. I would like to download the whole of wikipedia, and rip it onto some CD(s). How can I do it without manually downloading every article? If it is possible, Does wiki have any objections in doing so? Also, what may be the size of that? :SudhirP 13:16, May 16, 2004 (UTC)

It is welcomed, see http://download.wikimedia.org/. The current version of the english wikipedia will fit on a CD, but will be a very long download if you are on dialup. Pete/Pcb21 (talk) 15:20, 16 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Signing everything

[edit]

Please stop signing images and articles with your user name, this is against policy. Thank you --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 08:28, 2004 May 23 (UTC)

(We really do appreciate the edits; aside from the signing, keep up the good work!) grendelkhan|(blather) 08:30, 2004 May 23 (UTC)
Oookie, the thing is that if everyone would say sign wikipedia articles and images the content would suffer, instead we have upload logs and commmit logs to credit contributors. Since it is against policy signing everything means that 1. someone else has to go through your commits and fix them meaning trauble for them 2. content such as images you upload are in danger of being deleted. --Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 08:39, 2004 May 23 (UTC)
  • I used to sign my images and articles, so that i could show my friends that i am doing something worthwile on the internet, and that i have some articles under my name. Probably i went overboard. I will no longer sign my articles or images. But it may take some time to replace those existing images. (Anyway, thanx for mentioning! It is good manners to be modest!) :SudhirP 14:12, Jun 4, 2004 (UTC)

File:Sn2 Sn1 Graph.png needs authorship information

[edit]
Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Sn2 Sn1 Graph.png appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|SudhirP}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:35, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
