Hello MatthewRed and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

Hi. You seem to have done approximately the right thing. As I am sure you will understand we are a bit naturally skeptical about people claiming to have permission - sometimes they lie. :( As you are the webmaster could you upload some consent to that filespace and give us the link so we can verify your identity? Then we can kill that notice etc. Thanks, Morwen - Talk 08:07, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Well, you can make there be file on the website called "wikipedia.html" or something saying that it really is you. Doesn't have to be linked to and can be removed right after we've seen it... Morwen - Talk 08:26, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Right, that's great. Thanks for your patience. Btw, re the band, yeah, sure - drop me the link ;) What sort of music are they? Morwen - Talk 08:48, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Hi Matthew! Looks like you've gotten the copyright details for the Michael MacLennan article all sorted out with Morwen, fantastic! My apologies for replacing your article with the copyright suspicion banner, no offence is intended, this is just a precaution we take when a new article appears that is identical to something on another website. As you can imagine we get quite a few people doing a copy'n'paste of material that they don't have permission to release under the Wikipedia's GFDL license!

So, now that that's sorted, welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you enjoy it here!

p.s. I noticed that you created the article in both Michael MacLennan and Michael Lewis MacLennan - I made the Michael Lewis MacLennan a redirect to Michael MacLennan since most article names here are in a "Firstname Surname" style, but it can easily be swapped if "Michael Lewis MacLennan" is how he's more commonly known. —Stormie 12:15, Jul 7, 2004 (UTC)

Cleanup notice

[edit]

Oops, the Michael MacLennan article was originally listed on Wikipedia:Cleanup because it needed a bit of a polish to get it into standard Wikipedia format (headings, title styles, little things like that). I removed the listing when I listed it as a potential copyright problem, and forgot to put it back once we sorted that out!

I've put it back now.. if you want to dig through the Wikipedia:Manual of Style and polish it up you can, if not, someone else surely will. I'll do it myself if I get a spare minute.. —Stormie 12:41, Jul 9, 2004 (UTC)

STOP taking the cleanup header off the article until you've followed the Manual of Style, or you WILL get blocked from editing. RickK 19:43, Jul 9, 2004 (UTC)

Well, the article looks OK. The problem is, it's not really written in the manner of an encyclopedia article. I've made some changes that should make it better--part of it was, for example, the style of the lead, which didn't make it clear who MacLennan was or what he did. For more help, see Wikipedia:The perfect article, as well as the aforementioned Manual of Style. Hope this helps, and again, welcome to Wikipedia. Please stick around. Best wishes, Meelar (talk) 23:38, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)
You can tell them, but it's by no means obligatory--most users archive their talk pages fairly regularly. I guess I just let mine go. Anyway, thanks for reminding me. Meelar (talk) 23:55, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)
P.S. If yours gets too large, you can archive by creating a subpage, like this: 1.
P.P.S. If you need inspiration, a list of our very best articles is at Wikipedia:Featured articles. They're good examples of what we hope to get to (VERY eventually).

You might try force reloading the page in your browser (shift-reload in most of them) - it may have got the old version stuck in your cache. Morwen - Talk 10:34, 10 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Question on Deleting Temp Pages

[edit]

Michael Lewis MacLennan/Temp is gone now - only an admin can delete pages, so what us non-admins need to do is add the tag delete to the top of the page, then go over to Wikipedia:Speedy deletions and add it to the list of pages to be deleted, with a little explanation. Then an admin will take care of it. —Stormie 07:09, Jul 11, 2004 (UTC)
