Expand

[edit]

No offense to anyone, but this is the only thing I know about the journal. Someone should try to expand this article in a "non-Sokal" direction (the articles on Alan Sokal, the Sokal Affair, and Fashionable Nonsense already talk enough about the hoax). - dcljr 02:51, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Well, nearly three years later and it hasn't been expanded, and doesn't seem likely to. The fundamental problem is that there aren't any third party sources for anything else: Pretty much the only things that have been written about the journal at all are in the context of the Sokal affair. Every incoming link is also from that context. --Delirium 21:14, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Call for Accolades

[edit]

Goodness gracious. Social Text is a great journal. We really gotta update this little diatribe. --Dylanfly 21:41, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uh oh, I smell an intellectually dishonest SJW mired in doublespeak incoming. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.200.125.151 (talk) 23:03, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to see Alan Sokal felt the need to hide his identity when he commented above. I agree - this article, whatever one thinks of the journal, doesn't say much about the history of Social Text, the role it's played in the development of the social sciences and humanities, and instead focuses on the debates about science. I'd be pretty surprised if Alan Sokal, who lives in New York, monitored the talk page of this article and cared enough to reply to a then two-year old comment when on a trip to Florida or something. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 14:52, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Peer reviewed? Or: Is it a journal or a magazine?

[edit]

Is there any evidence of peer review performed in Social Text? I couldn't find anything under the Submission Guidelines (tab). Otherwise, either this periodical needs to be recategorized under Category:Academic magazines or Wikipedia's definition of academic journal needs to be expanded (further info: Talk:Academic journal#"Usually" peer-reviewed?).
