Organization

[edit]

removed 'History of ancient Israel and Judah' link. other country sub-headings are specific to modern nation-states. if we get in to adding links to various parts of each nation's history, this list would be unnavigable and extremely long (think China, India, etc...)

Merge With Eurasia?

[edit]

Hey, are you guys discussing whether Eurasia should be merged with Asian history? I think it should. The steps between one continent's history and another's should be included, so Eurasia should be merged with Europe as well. If you were learning about a friend you'd learn of their past friendships, wouldn't you? -Peter — Preceding improperly signed comment added by 71.111.113.165 (talk) 07:55, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you are to join the subjects of eurasia, asia, and europe into the same history section, you must ensure that none of the small details are ommitted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.143.116.8 (talk) 21:52, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it would be a good idea to combine Eurasia with Europe and Asia. The Eurasia article would be too long and detailed. It should stay as a summary for both European and Asian history, while the two separate articles go into further detail. If you insist, we could add a "Relations with Europe" section (or something similar) in History of Asia, but I wouldn't go any further than that. InvaderCito (talk) 22:17, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion required

[edit]

Dear Editors, the article is in urgent need of expansion. The construction of the article is moving at a very slow pace. Please contribute for this article and improvise it in all areas. Focus on areas like the Iron Age, Bronze Age and Medieval History etc. Please look upon all the reliable sources and dont forget to quote them. Looking forward for your assistance. Vandalized

[edit]

This article has been heavily vandalized by unregistered users. No one seems to notice. They insert nonsensical statements not obvious unless you read it, which apparently not many people do. I'm going to fix a few for now but I suggest a 6-month lock on unregistered users. That would give us a chance to write an article here.Dave (talk) 21:55, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Time Periods Require Organization

[edit]

As I have been expanding this article, I would find it very helpful if we decided on appropriate beginnings and endings for time periods in Asian history. It's a little difficult to organize information when I'm not sure if belongs in, for example, either the Medieval period or the Classical period. If someone could come up with a definitive timeline of Asian time periods, or at least a popular one, it would be very helpful to editors like me and to the people reading this article. Separating the Middle East Sections

[edit]

To be more specific, I suggest that the sections in this page pertaining to the Middle East be merged with History of the Middle East or, if unnecessary, merely removed. I'm not technically advocating this decision, but more so putting it up for debate. The Middle Eastern region has a significantly separate history and is often considered a different historical region in other works. Removing it would allow us to focus on more specific Asian regions such as Vietnam, Korea, Indonesia, or Thailand without too much clutter. Any opinions? A surprising omission

[edit]

This article is ostensibly about Asia, yet there is a significant & major omission in its coverage -- Southeast Asia. That corner of the continent comprising the modern-day countries of Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia & Burma, home to over 600 million people. AFAICS, the only mention of this part of Asia is the link under "See also" I added; a quick search returns 10 mentions of Vietnam, 2 for Thailand, another 2 for Burma, & none for the other 5 countries named. (A search on Myanmar also returns 0 hits.)

This part of Asia is hardly the inconsequential backwater this implies: this part of the world has its own rich histories & cultures, as well as being the fertile interface between India & China, as well as being an outpost from where European merchants & explorers spread to East Asia. None of which is implied in this article -- beyond the occasional moment when China or Japan occupied parts of SE Asia. This is a form of systemic bias that could easily be fixed. -- llywrch (talk) 19:43, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Added {{incomplete}}. Hanif Al Husaini (talk) 10:35, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in History of Asia

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of History of Asia's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "ArchMag":

  • From Turkey: "The World's First Temple". Archaeology magazine. November–December 2008. p. 23.
  • From Megalith: "The World's First Temple". Archaeology magazine. Nov–Dec 2008. p. 23.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 02:50, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Change dating system to Common Era

[edit]

I will be changing the dating system on this article away from the biased, Christian based AD/BC to the common era system next week. If you object, please state why you are ok with the biased system here. Eupnevma (talk) 19:09, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Before you go changing AC BC please read Wikipedia:Manual of Style, specifically MOS:VAR. Also, instead of hundreds of discussions regarding the changes on hundreds of different talk pages, get a conversation going here: Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style. Thanks!
