Indie Rock?

[edit]

This article states afi to be and indie rock band, erm what? -- The Pain 13:49, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

At the time they could be considered one. --Dwnsjane 22:12, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No way, man. AFI was never indie rock. "Nitro" is HARDLY an indie label. However, more about the genre: I don't think Art of Drowning is a hardcore album. They'd started to drift towards Punk Rock at this point, as aparent in the Days of the Phoenix (for instance). - Enzo Dragon 18:29, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm replacing "Hardcore Punk" with "Punk Rock". Although this album has Hardcore leanings and all of that, it's taken a definate step away from older albums, and a few babysteps away from Black Sails. If anyone strongly disagrees, I'd like for them to discuss it here before reverting! - Enzo Dragon 08:12, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This album I feel is more melodic hardcore. There are elements of hardcore such as the shouting and fast guitar, especially in the Despair Factor and The Lost Souls. It may be dark but that doesn't matter. Never indie rock though, AFI wasn't unique enough: their music complied with the main elemetns of hardcore punk. And how is Nitro not an indie label? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Afifanno1 (talkcontribs) 07:59, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AFI has gone through many changes in the bands lifetime. they've gone from, "East Bay Hardcore." to "Horror Punk." to "Punk." now with Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground. it has more of a progressive-punk, dark, alternative rock. i belive thay are a great band, and everything they put out is good; and for the most part, every successive album is better then the one before it. i was a little let down by DeemberUnderground. but i have have to say The Art Of Drowning is in my top three. for how melodic it is, its still very dark. with a few religious connintations. i.e. 6 to 8, and The Nephilm. great band, great album, not indie rock.--User:gone.again.
